Dreams In Motion/ Ourtown Theatre’s Organization History
In 2004, Debbie Donaldson and Jennifer Butchart created Dreams In Motion. We not only taught dance but added drama, music and visual arts to the organization. Local professional artists were hired as teachers and in the first year enrolled a total of 162 students from ages 3 to 60.
In 2006, Jennifer and Debbie realized that in order to keep the artistic programming continuing in the area for many years to come, the business needed to grow from a partnership to an incorporated, registered, non-profit organization (# 861589562 RR0001). Jennifer and Debbie brought together a group of dedicated parents, students and other volunteers who were willing to devote their time and energy to Dreams In Motion Performing and Fine Arts School. We became incorporated in March, 2006 and the assets of the partnership started by Jennifer and Debbie were donated to the new organization and a new board of members was formed. In May of 2006, Dreams In Motion was granted charitable status. Since 2004 we have had over 1500 students come through our doors! Debbie Donaldson retired in June 2012.
Our dedicated staff, board members and volunteers help Dreams In Motion provide educational and entertainment opportunities for people in our community with diverse interests, backgrounds and ages so that they can participate in and enjoy the splendour of the performing and fine arts.
Dreams In Motion strives to provide a multi-disciplinary program of dance, theatre, music and visual arts in an environment committed to challenging and nurturing each individual student; promoting growth creatively, socially & physically. Determination, self-discipline, confidence, focus & concentration, listening skills, multi-tasking, positive social skills and having a passion for what you are doing are just a few of the qualities that students acquire when they are exposed to activities that foster them! The exact activities that Dreams In Motion offers its students. We share our students’ talents by performing at Dreams, at The Royal Theatre, in our community at events, schools and at nursing and retirement homes.
Our classes run from September – June. Our classes may include: Acro, Creative, Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Tap, Hip-Hop, Ball-room, Flexibility & Strength, Twists & Turns, as well as solos, duets, trios & private classes for individuals or groups(based on teacher & space availability). Our students will perform at our Year-End recital on Saturday, June 3rd, 2018. Then we gear up for our amazing Summer Camps with a different theme each week!
We are always open to new students as well as volunteers and Board Members (unless there are no vacancies until the following year).
As a Registered Charitable Non-profit Organization we need the support of our community, not only through volunteers, but we also need monetary assistance through donations, fund-raising and grants. We need your support in order to continue keeping our students’ “Dreams In Motion”!
